Creepy eyeball horror! What was I thinking? I'm squeamish about stuff surrounding eyeballs. Fortunately this is a short story so it didn't have me under it's spell for long although I did think about it some after.

Yes, there was a lot going on and yes the meat tenderizer morphed into a crowbar and yes the whole thing was a little off but it grossed me out and that's my standard for body horror.

We follow Klara, a woman who is going to get an experimental procedure done on her missing left eye. The procedure is a success however the doctor sexually assaults her while she was under anesthesia.

As she goes back and forth about what to do she notices a tiny golden creature running around in her vision where the left eye would be, and this creature begins to communicate to her on how to get revenge...

Before all this, we get a good set up on how she loses her eye, and how difficult the other kids treat her because of it and that effect on her mental well being and life. But most of this story is about the doctor's office and what happens after, and it is a rather short story so I should leave it at that.

Just know if you are in the mood for a gory and fun horror short EYE think you'll be happy with this one.

(Sorry not sorry.)

The bloody bits were pretty good if a little goofy in a certain regard. The revenge ark is pretty satisfying if a little out of the left field. There's a meat tenderizer that becomes a crow bar and a haunted prosthetic eye, long story short, it's a bit of a fever dream.

Nope! Just Nope! I have no idea why I decided to read this book. It’s clearly about eye stuff and I hate eye stuff. What is wrong with me. Ugh…puke…so gross…just can’t.

I finished the story but I may have nightmares. If eye stuff don’t bother you then read this one. It’s a great, short, well written revenge story. If it does bother you then run away.

After reading the Venus Complex I looked forward to more from Barbie Wilde. I'll talk about this short story a little on my next book video for sure, as it was a dark treat. I'd have liked to see this be twice as long to bring the characters to life as they are both horrific and hopeful.

the best part of this was flipping to the biography and finding out the author played the female cenobite in hellraiser 2. the worst part was everything else.

The eyes have it

A sexual assault during a procedure to insert a prosthetic eye results in the most gruesome form of revenge. Anything involving eyes makes me cringe and this did. When her attacker is force-fed eyes by the dozen, it created the bizarre image of an 'eye' version of Kerplunk, something I could never have imagined previously. Original and horrific, this is a great little tale.
