This was a pretty cute romance book. I picked it up, looking to fill the void that The Hating Game by Sally Thorne left me with. It's an itch that no book has been able to scratch unfortunately. I enjoyed the hate/love concept in The Hating Game so I thought I'd give this one a try as it was marketed similarly. Sadly, it kind of missed the mark. There wasn't actually hate between the two love interests, although there are times where they doubt each other and think that the other might be an enemy of some sort, on the whole they like each other for essentially the whole book and only withhold acting on those feelings because of their work situation. That is not necessarily a bad thing, it's just different to what I was expecting.

I liked the main characters, Evie and Carter were cute and likable. The book also touched on some interesting issues, including sexism and misogyny which become a large plot point when talking about the character of Brad. Overall, I really enjoyed it, I just had different expectations when first jumping in.

I’m very half and half when it comes to Christina Lauren books. Some I absolutely adore and others not so much. I did like this but it wasn’t very enjoyable compared to others!

This was an easy read romance, workplace romance with enemies to lovers as well. Everything I normally like I just didn’t click with this one as much as others I’ve read which is why it’s a 3.

In the synopsis it says"Carter and Evie immediately hit it off" and that's exactly how I felt about the book and then it all went down hill from there. I found when they "hated" each other and were fighting not only was it incredibly immature and infuriating but also not funny.

A super quick read for me, but honestly I was just kind of bored. It has some Hating Game vibes for sure, but whereas I found THG to be really hard to put down, I didn’t feel that way about this book.

It’s definitely a fun book! The banter between Evie and Carter is great! And I liked having a FMC who was a few years older than the MMC. The romance between them kind of missed the mark for me.

But I didn’t love the setting (Hollywood) and I didn’t love the careers (talent agents) and I don’t find either character particularly relatable, so I struggled to bond with them.

The bad guy I kind of saw coming from pretty early on, including what he was doing. And characters like the bad guy just infuriate me to no end, it’s hard to read a book where a guy is like so demeaning to women and no one just pushes back against that? Not that it doesn’t happen in real life (spoiler: it does) but as a woman in corporate America I see that enough that I don’t want it to make its way into my fictional escapes (lol).

Christina Lauren is such a fun author duo (and SO NICE) and I’ve really enjoyed their later, more recent works! But I haven’t been as much of a fan as their older works.
