This concept had potential but wasn't executed particularly well imo. Helena is awesome as ever but if anything, this story did not need six chapters to get to the point.

For starters, I don't like the design of this book. Black Canary looks more like Edgar Winter than a Bird of Prey. Plus the Huntress/mob storyline is so tired. I want to like this, but it's just making me miss Burnside.

We talk about this and the Birds of Prey in general on a special episode of the All the Books Show: https://soundcloud.com/allthebooks/episode-234-birds-of-prey

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, basically Black Canary and Batgirl get back together, and the mysterious Huntress joins the group.

The core of the plot explores Huntress's past, as well as searches for who is posing as Oracle. Its a basic enough plot, but works well to introduce the trio and set the stage.

I really enjoyed Black Canary and Batgirl's relationship, and the way they embraced Huntress. Black Canary remains my favorite of the trio, and we do get some great views into her past.

The writing strikes a bit of an odd balance, between serious situations, and campy self-aware jokes, that for the most part work, and help build up the relationships between the characters.

I LOVED the artstyle, with illustrations and bright colors managing to completely nail character expressions, emotions, and using the dark setting of Gotham to enhance the story.

Overall, an enjoyable and fun romp with the Birds of Prey, that sets the stage for further stories.

A painful, abject lesson in how *NOT* to write three strong female leads. Dull, ridiculous plot, and sub-standard art add to the misery. (Seriously...what was up with Babs in these issues? That face...eurgh)
Huntress fans are sold horribly short as she has no other appearances (as yet) to compensate for this shambles. At least Batgirl has her own title, and Black Canary flies alongside Green Arrow.

I've read most of the Rebirth series now, and can safely say this is one of, if not *the* worst.

65/100.

Ha estado interesante. Vamos a ver cómo sigue la cosa. Me gusta mucho más que la serie en solitario de Batgirl.

Babs' characterization still feels off to me.

Anyway, this delves into Dinah's childhood which was cool. It's all about her learning to channel her pain into fighting. It's a pretty solid storyline except I don't quite get what it has to do with the plot the BoP are currently in?

This ends with Babs pissing off Helena and its striking that she's the one with the most going on behind the scenes. Not because I thought she'd be really forthcoming with her feelings but because it's issue 3 and we still have nothing. She'll probably get more development in the next issue.

This series is okay.

Guess the precious issue was a fluke. Messy, but they're really starting to get the banter down. Huntress is still a major problem, but the Canary back story was nice if heavy-handed.
