Enjoying this variation of BOP but miss the originals. But still glad these three are back together!

This comic was ok. There was some action and humor but the art could have been better. I received an ecopy of this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Good entry point for new readers, as you get a bit of background on all three characters. The writing is snappy and art full of motion and personality. Story is nothing spectacular, but it does a good job introducing the team. Glad I picked it up, and I'm all about that biker crew aesthetics ;)

I was really excited to read the first collection of Birds of Prey. I've known Babs origin story, but it was great to read more about the other women in the group as well. The writing and the art was enjoyable - and I am definitely hooked to learn more!

Lots of fun twists and turns in this one!

Thanks to Netgalley and DC for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I've loved the Birds of Prey for years, since I first saw the dedicated episode in Batman: the Brave and the Bold. I found in this take, it was lacking the spark I loved in that episode. The story's fine (I have complaints I will get into in a moment) and the characterization is also just... fine. I find that while the volume is a bit of fun, it's incompariable to what I loved about the Birds of Prey in the first place. This volume won't spark a child to fall in love with the group, it's pretty much just another DC story. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Black Canary, has a crush on her character for years and the way she was drawn and characterized represented everything I love about her. I don't know much about Huntress, I know a little more now but I can't quite say she's a favourite.. at all.
Plotwise, the resolution felt lackluster. I can't believe they trusted him so quickly, it felt a little out of character but I guess they needed plot points to jump off of. But also, what is with the need to criminalise women leaving their husbands? This was an extreme take on the "selfish wife" plot and I can't believe in a volume that screamed feminism, they really pulled that bs. Apparently women seeking happiness after being disatisfied in a marriage is unforgivable.

Me, gay for Huntress? It's more likely than you think!

Nothing revolutionary, but it's a fun story with great characters. Helena's moral view switch feels incredibly rushed and artificial, and the condemnation of her mother's murders in the name of revenge but the sweeping under the rug of her own seems hypocritical. This should have been addressed more, like drawing out the differences between both of their revenge quests, or have this be the impetus of her change of view on killing bad guys

Honestly all I can say is that I just love Dinah Lance. Also either the artist got lazy through these few issues or they just forgot to always draw in her fishnets.

Though, I will say that I loved the interactions between Huntress, Batgirl and Dinah. They were probably some of my favorites in these issues. And I'm really excited to read the next few issues and see what our favorite girls get up to next time.
