"Junky" is a novel by William S. Burroughs, first published in 1953. The story follows the life of a young man named William Lee who becomes addicted to heroin and embarks on a life of crime to support his habit. The novel explores the seedy underworld of drug addiction, prostitution, and petty crime, and portrays a bleak and uncompromising view of life in urban America during the 1940s and 1950s. Through Lee's experiences, the novel offers a powerful critique of American society and its values, and portrays the struggle of the individual against the forces of addiction and social alienation. "Junky" is widely regarded as a classic of the Beat Generation and has had a significant influence on modern literature and culture
