Imaginative world (or rather, future) with an interesting vision of the future of conservation and genetic engineering. Primarily, though, a love story set in a fantastic environment. I loved that fantastic background but found the love story unengaging. Worth the read, would recommend to friends and will read more from this author, hoping to see the immense promise this book showed fulfilled.

I feel like if this book had been a movie or a tv series, my rating would have been much higher. The author goes immediately into the story expecting the reader to understand exactly what is happening. There is some description but the book is so wordy that it can be hard to follow. The plot also seemed like it took forever to take off. Then once it did it would slow down again with wordy filler chapters. And those filler chapters were just a lot of whining from the characters.
Like Kaliyu’s hatred for humans and Vaha’s constant dwelling on zir maker’s expectationsI
genuinely almost didn’t finish. The last quarter of the book really saved it for me. Once loose ends started to wrap up,
basically as soon as Jaya was able to get back to the Primary to try and save the project
, the plot started to pick back up again and wrapped up in a nice little bow.

pleasant read

The author takes a theme of humans vs their creations and weaves a world in which there is some friction but not dystopia.

I found myself challenged to re-examine some of my own worldviews.
