This is a fascinating look at how everything happened on earth largely using access to energy as the base paradigm.

Too concept heavy. Was not in the mood for something so metaphysical

Fascinating but ponderous. Takes a look at astrophysics, the creation of the universe, and brings it into play in the origin story of Earth and the human race and everything else on Earth. The problem is that a topic this huge and scientific needs to be told by a master atthe topic, teaching and explaining, like Carl Sagan, or by someone who can take that data and explain it to the layperson (like Bill Bryson did).

This book does exactly what it says on the cover, condenses down the major historical elements of our known history and presents them in an easy to understand format. I really enjoyed the take Christian took on this, it was so well researched and put together. I did find some of the science lingo a bit troubling at times, but it's all explained so anyone with some basic understanding can follow the story along.

Personally, I preferred to switch between an audiobook of this and the physical copy. While I did enjoy this, reading it for too long caused me to zone out a little, so switching to the audio book kept me happily engaged.

Liked it, but I wish I was as optimistic as the author about the human race.

When writing about previously known history and science, authors are challenged to offer something different than just the facts. Unfortunately, this work didn't do it for me. Too much of a text book feel, which may have a place in schools, but not too much beyond. I often found myself quite bored and the material wasn't presented in a way that engaged me in the subject matter, which has to be a prerequisite with known knowledge.

I love the idea behind the big history project and this book is a great introduction to it. It doesn’t go much into specifics on certain civilizations but it gives a sampling of so many topics that you have multiple springboards for whatever discipline described tickles your fancy.

Worth the read.

Immensely insightful.... till where human recorded history starts. I guess the book 'Sapiens' will do better here.

Christian view is that this cosmic nataraja nritham is but shape-shifts of energy.

Read it!
