This was my first time reading Lord of the Flies. I found it to be quite entertaining. I knew there was going to be a somewhat dark feel to it, but I wasn't expecting how the plot turned out to be at all. I really enjoyed reading it, and would definitely recommend it.

It was a lot better than expected! It was interesting to see the idea of savagery vs. civilization from a veteran's perspective. I enjoyed reading this book, though some of the topics were poorly represented. 3 stars

Man, what a rough read. I think I'm too old to read this classic, which is required reading in grade school (5th? 8th? 9th?). The idea that children could or would go feral like this isn't entirely impossible, but it is very, very hard to think about and feels unlikely.

How far are we, really, from descending into savagery?

I had to read this book for school and I barely got through it. The first thing that comes to my mind is that there are white boys in the book, and every comment about them is on how they look (example is Piggy). The end is gripping, but by then you already get bored of it so much you don’t really care anymore.

I get the point this was trying to make, but lordy was it a painful read. I can appreciate it for its existence, but I think I found man's descent into madness and savagery far more enjoyable in Hunger Games.
