some of the events in this are definitely disturbing, to say the least.

ongoing animal slaughter, the fact that they literally killed piggy in the end ? like what ?? i’m not surprised bc they’re all males but still ?

but the fact that apparently all of these boys are based off real students mr golding taught is somehow even funnier to me. 
also this sheer obsession with the conch ? i am traumatised by the word alone

Marooned on an uninhabited island, 'civilised' children and prepubescents are presumably unable to democratise, instead regressing into various expressions of 'savage tribe' behaviour. The relatively short read is an exposition of groupthink/de-individuation, populism, superstition and even manslaughter, among other things if you want to go deeper in your anaylsis.

I choose to believe in the essential good of humans, even very young ones, with a tendency toward collaboration and altruism during calamity. William Golding clearly thought otherwise.

The trope(s) have been copied, parodied, interpreted so much over the years that I found the book itself hard to enjoy in its own right.

I deduct 0.5 a star because realistically, all these kids should've died in that fucking plane, and then this whole situation would've been avoided. Also, there's no women or girls, and I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing. I got an 85 on my paper about this book. I should've gotten a 90, but apparently, my evidence wasn't enough. Fuck you, Golding. -0.5 stars for you.

If you're wondering about any specifics, during one of the campfire scenes, there is a boy who rapes the dead pig on a spit. It's still debated if it actually happened, but majority of theories say yes. Lots of power dynamics really heavily learning into mob mentality and manipulation. The physical abuse are performed by the boys onto other boys. It never brinks onto anything sexual, though those topics do come up during analysis of the book.
