When I tho I read some ridiculous thriller ... This one top em all

Alright I thought this book was going to make me a lot more uncomfortable than it actually did. There were still those parts that made me uncomfortable but funny enough they weren't the scenes that I thought I would be uncomfortable with. It was the scenes with Ralph god I really wanted to hurt that guy. The sexual scenes weren't that bad after the first few. I was a little confused when the book changed points of view there was no segue into the other characters thoughts and scenes and it was a little interesting getting into the other characters mind and then being thrust into another characters thoughts. An I did not see that coming with Deanna's turning point after she loses her family that was a shock I know there were hints but bam that just hit me in the face It helped the story along. I'm still not sure if I want to continue this series but I might be leaning more towards yes. We shall see.

Audio is a lot better

The first half was a little more Letters to Penthouse than I care for, but it turned into a fairly decent thriller.

4 stars.

Serious triggers for abuse and not for everybody.

I can't exactly articulate what I was expecting, given the description for this book. What I can say is that it's very different from those vague presumptions. Dark, twisted, and amusing. Some mandatory suspension of disbelief required. And enough to make me want to grab the next books in the series ASAP.

The premise of this book is gripping, a murder-obsessed cam girl shut-in has to leave her apartment to save a missing girl... What will happen when she does? It's so bizarre and twisted, but the book failed to meet the high expectations I had for it.

The writing was extremely poor and the dialogue seemed fractured. Not only that, but the reactions of characters didn't seem genuine at all. We're told our main female isn't normal and we have plentiful evidence of that, but that only excuses her behaviour not those of the other supposedly normal characters. Other than the box cutting scene, we don't really see any of the things she fears happening coming true or any unprovoked reactions. What is going to happen when she leaves her apartment is so built up, but when she finally does she seems completely unfazed and it doesn't align with anything we've been told so far. I think the most bizarre thing in this book is how ordinary our lead seems at times.

As other viewers have pointed out the story is quite unbelievable at times, a sex worker who hasn't left her apartment in years turned avenging angel. There were some moments where it was like the author was trying to explain Deanna's thought process, but the sheer extremity of these thoughts and the way they were phrased seemed ridiculous and laughable. The way she described her need for s̶p̶e̶e̶d̶ blood and violent fantasies came across as so unserious. They weren't well thought out or cleverly written, but almost seemed like they belonged in a comedy skit version of the character the author wanted to portray.

The backstory surrounding what happened with Deanna's family was very cliche and predictable. From more or less the minute I read it I could tell what had happened and I think any seasoned thriller reader worth their salt would too. It's suggested that she is the way she is because of the trauma she experienced, but it's not fully developed and we so little to no personal growth as the story develops.

The paedophilia storyline was also predictable yet also disturbing to read about and it isn't something I like to be included in thrillers or mysteries. I like my shock factors to be fun or unique and this was just horrible and uneasy to read about. However, nothing really happened in the story and there were no twists or bite. It's like the author had a concept and the bare bones of the novel and just flung them down on paper without expanding further. Things played out, but there was no misdirection or any of the hallmarks you would expect from a thriller. All that buildup also came to a very anticlimactic end and even the tension from the key scene (the confrontation) was lacking.

The girl in 6E has been the book that's been on my TBR for the longest and I'm sad to say that it was thoroughly underwhelming.
