This was a good read. It probably was a magazine or newspaper serial originally as the parts of the book flow a little funny, but the plot was great with no dull spots, like a Shaw Brothers Kung Fu movie. The characters were excellent especially the nicknames and their various kung fu styles. Overall a fun book, highly recommended.

Classic martial arts fantasy novel was a huge influence on my latest novel Hunting the Moon Tribe. My favorite Wuxia novel.

It was like watching a cdrama, great explanations of the fighting scenes (first time that I could comprehend the action-reaction of a fight), broad spectrum of characters, love interests, unraveling of secrets, beautiful sceneries and gripping storyline. I can’t say its a perfect book but I thoroughly enjoyed it ~

Louis Cha's (Jinyong's) first novel, which was originally serialized and then collected into novel form. It's an excellent read by one of the most famous authors in Hong Kong, but this book is made even more special because it's one of the few (maybe only) excellent translations that I've ever found of Louis Cha's work. The translation was done by British journalist Graham Earnshaw, and so the story works quite well in English.

Heartbreaking. That's all.
This book is heartbreaking, until the very end!
I loved it from the first page and still holds a special place on my shelves!
