This starts off seriously well and frames everything well, but then it just all gets a bit messy and all over the place and falls away

Antiques dealer Arthur Crockleford's death is deemed an accident, but his best friend Carole knows better. She knows all about Arthur's double life exploring the underbelly of the antiques market, and the shady people he was mixed up with. This was murder, and only her niece Freya has enough inside information to help her get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, Freya is still nursing old wounds, having been long estranged from her onetime mentor, and both of them are in more danger than they realize.

It had an elegance to it I enjoyed. A very old school, Christie-esque mystery set deep in the English countryside, with a collection of shady characters each looking more guilty than the next, and a dramatic unveiling scene. What could be better? Carole was incredibly lovable and I only took off a star because Freya, having been so beaten down by life going into the adventure, was pretty hard to warm up to.

Good reading for a dark and stormy night.

It was a decent summer read.

A good li'l cozy mystery. Not amazing though. Honestly, I think my favorite character was Arthur and he died immediately. 😂
BUT Freya and Carole are a fun duo... Carole kept me entertained. I might check out the second eventually and decide then if it's worth listening to more. I much preferred Cleo Coyle's Coffeeshop Murders series based solely on this book.

The writing style just was not for me. I found thr characters to be boring and I just did bit connect at all.
