Absolutely could not put this down! Addictive and exciting. It seriously made me want to learn more about antiques and antiquities. The twists and turns weren’t too telenovella-y like my last mystery. I enjoyed how it was thrilleresque without being too scary or dark. It almost felt like a cozy mystery, but almost a step up from that. I really enjoyed getting to know the MFC Freya and that she was a bit older than most of the characters in books I’ve read and her sidekick, her flamboyant aunt Carole was a total hoot. Absolutely cannot wait to read the second book.

DID NOT FINISH: 52%

Frustratingly slow and unsubtle. The internal dialogue is insanely and unnecessarily repetitive, “revealing” emotions and connections that were already obvious. I found myself thinking “ok we get it!!” so often when Freya reminded us, yet again, that she had a tough relationship with so-and-so. The sharing didn’t GO anywhere or DO anything. The pace is also unnecessarily slow. It felt, overall, like so many of the choices were just not intentional. There wasn’t purpose. The story just kind of lazes about in a really obvious way. Been trying to force myself through it for weeks…sadly disappointed.

Pros:

This does feel in some ways slightly nostalgic but I can’t place exactly where or why.  At points it reminds me of the movie/game Clue, other times it felt almost cinematic.

Cons:

I expected a bit more fun with this and it could just be that I have a book hanger or the book might not have been for me.  It wasn’t in any way bad I just needed more.
