Picked this up to see why booktwt was talking about this and… I’m just trying to give it 0 stars… man was this book fucking awful. Side note, the “dub-con” and “cnc” tags do not apply to actual rape and masking it as if the victim “enjoyed it” is not dark romance.

i'm so shocked that i enjoyed brutal obsession as much as i did. i typically don't like or even gravitate towards dark romance. but, this was an entertaining ride for me.

it took me a while for me to like the mmc. his motives for harassing the fmc were so unserious. however, i ended up feeling satisfied (as much as one can be with a dark romance love interest at least) with his character arc by the end of the book. my main issue, the one that really bothers me, was with the plot execution. i liked the initial set up that s. massery goes for. however, due to the underutilization of the length of the book, the way the plot played out felt underdeveloped and rushed. i could honestly see myself loving this book if the middle chunk was utilized more to develop the story plot wise.

plot aside, i really liked the characters and relationship dynamic... once i got used to the mmc's antics at least. a good chunk of the side characters were fun. give me willows book, this instant! i guess i'll settle for steele's book though.

I think one of the reviews below had the perfect description- WTF did tiktok make me read 😂

I feel I kind of forced myself to read this one, I wanted to give up cause it kept getting worse around 20-30% (just again not my kind of book but heard good things). I pushed through and I do think it got better hence the two stars rather than the one star. But yeah it also started dragging by the end etc etc so just not on the top of my recommendations for the year put it that way. Also feel the switch of Grayson was really fast he went from very angry and aggressive of wanting to hurt violet to all of a sudden in love.

• DROPPED it a ⭐️ bc I started reading it again (2/17/24) and could barely remember it - will have to add more spoilers to this bc none of it rings any bells! 😬😬😬 UPDATE: 4/24 - Even these clues aren’t triggering any memories; all I remember is the locker room scene at the beginning!! 😠

• Greyson: Cocky, rich, privileged; extreme daddy issues; hockey player
• Violet: Dancer with ruined career; Greyson hates her bc SHE ruined HIS life with the accident; total pushover
• Greyson gets into a car accident, causing an injury to the driver of the other car (Violet); he put his date in the driver seat, called his Dad to clean everything up; left the scene of the crime; still got arrested and had to transfer schools (to Violet's school) bc of the scandal
• The things Greyson did to try to ruin Violet at the beginning were crazy-town and hurtful. (
  Made her blow a friend to keep her quiet
  )
• Felt like Violet was a pushover at beginning and just LET shit happen to her. 
• When we learned she had an actual stalker, it was easy to figure out who based on who came into and then left her story.
• Grey’s dark obsession with Violet turned into a version of obsessive love and I was here for it. 
• Her kinks match his (Dubcon, Noncon, blood play, breathe play, primal play, public play)
• Not as dark as I expected or wanted. 
• I enjoyed the book, but was able to put it down at 80% to sleep…I probably won’t reread but will definitely rec to those who enjoy these tropes.
