Rating: 3.5/5 I liked it a lot

I love Delia and Gabe’s relationship, they respect, trust and love each other. Gabe treats Delia as an equal, a partner, a friend. It’s so refreshing to see an stable marriage and a solid relationship.

I was intrigued by the mystery, love the characters and the setting.

If you were a fan of the series Medium or the ghost whisperer, you might like this as well. I highly recommend it.

Spoiler Delia is still learning from Dora. She recently miscarried a child and suspects she won’t be able to have one. She’s been haunted by the ghost of a child, very powerful and seem fixed on Gabe.

Gabe and his partner Jack are investigating the murder the son-in-law of San Francisco’s police commissioner, and it’s looks as though it was ritually killed. This murder is connected to another murder in Chinatown, the little girl’s ghost and to a series of disappearances linked to an anti-war speaker, Effie Fontaine.

Gabe and Delia receive the assistance of Mr. Sung Wing, tong leader and a man experienced in the supernatural, in the course of their investigations. His brother and niece were killed by Effie’s men.

Effie is married to a german man, they had a very sickly daughter (she’s the ghost). They were working for Germany, trying to prevent the US from entering the war. Maximilian, the man they worked for, was using dark magic to steal people’s ghosts and gain power. Effie was working for them because they promised to cure her daughter. Keeping her alive but dying was what made her a ghost. She was protecting some of the ghost and her anger was what made her so powerful. She only wanted to Rest In Peace.

In a raid, The police killed Effie’s husband. She was arrested and convicted for treason. Their daughter finally died. Sung Wing’s people killed Maximilian.

As much as I loved the first book, I made it about half way through this one and just have to set it aside. The story so far was almost all about ghosts and hauntings. There is no interest in or development to the actual characters. Not much in the way of plot either.
