I feel bad but this just wasn’t the book for me. It felt childish and the characters lack of communication (a trope maybe?) was something that made the story drag on for way to long and made it pretty boring. It was a sweet story and I loved that the main character owned a salad shop but it just didn’t hit for me.
LOVED this one! Such a fun read. It has everything from friendship, small business feels, "book club" vibes, and a slow-burn romance.

4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this book. It’s a slow burn, found family, friends to lovers masterpiece.
Hailey moves to a new town and opens a to go salad shop in hopes that her business will take off. She lives near her cousin and recently went through a breakup. Over time she starts developing friends and meets Wes.
Wes is a very smart techy, artistic guy who sounds dreamy. He has a hard time trusting people and doesn’t understand that point of a relationship or a future with anyone, that is until he meets Hailey..
Wes and Haileys story was really special to me. I loved seeing Wes put his walls down and really start to trust Hailey. It’s so hard to do that so it hit home for me. I like seeing the characters develop and the found family. I’d recommend this book to anyone. It was very cute.

I really, really enjoyed this opposites attract, friends to lovers, dual POV, slow burn retelling of When Harry met Sally.
Both Hailey and Wes aren't interested in anything more than friendship but as the months go by and they keep hanging out, sparks keep flying that increasingly have them wondering if something more might be worth a try.
As the oldest Jansen brother, Wes has seen his brothers find happiness in love but he's determined it's not for him even though he really hates seeing Hailey go on dates with other guys. I didn't love the third act break/misunderstanding in this one but the grand gesture at the end and epilogue really made up for it.
I also really liked how the characters helped one another with their business goals/dreams (Hailey with her online website and Wes with his secret dream of videogame design).
Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for early digital copies in exchange for my honest review. I listened mostly to the ALC and was so excited when it arrived I had to drop all my other reading plans immediately! My only small quibble is that I wish this was an open door romance instead of a fade to black one.
Favorite quote:
"Life without cookies is just dumb!" (coming from a Salad shop owner with a giant sweet tooth and a love of all things romance!)

When they meet, neither Wes Jansen nor Hailey Sharp is looking for love. Wes has had a string of unsuccessful dates with app matches and doesn’t want romantic love anyway; he has a criteria checklist for what would make a good mate. Hailey is recently out of a bad relationship and is putting her all into making her salad shop a success. Naturally, they decide to be just friends, and they fall into a pattern of spending time together and helping each other. It should be easy to stay just friends, right?
Oh, feelings, they can be quite pesky and difficult to control after all.
This is a sweet friends-to-lovers story with an uptight MMC and sunshine FMC. I enjoyed watching their friendship grow and seeing how they support each other, seeing the family and found family aspects come together, and viewing the ingenuity in their gifts for each other. There is a fun supporting cast of characters, too.
This book is closed door / fade-to-black, but it doesn’t feel like the door is slammed in your face. You still feel the attraction and sizzle between Wes and Hailey. It would make a cute PG-13 romcom film.
For me, the book was perfectly pleasant but stretched a little long.
I tend to listen to audiobooks at 2x speed but like to slow them down to 1x for a bit before giving my review. In this case, I personally would not have enjoyed the narration as much at the default 1x speed, so I recommend giving the sample a listen before picking it up to see if the narrators fit for you.
I received an advance copy of the audiobook from Macmillan Audio and an advance copy of the ebook from St. Martin’s Press, both via NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.
