I usually am not a huge fan of the 3rd book in a series of 3, as it is a connector, but this one exceeded my expectations!! I’m such a HUGE fan of this Nyxia trilogy and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to try out sci-fi for the first time or those that already love the genre. It’s a gripping story that captivates the reader from start to finish. There is very little down time in this book and each word leaves you grasping for more!

Nyxia Unleashed is a powerhouse! It’s a thrill ride with intensity and passion. Full of refreshing twists and character developments, you won’t be sorry you returned to the Nyxia world!

What an incredible sequel this was! It was fast paced and exciting! I loved every minute of it, and the only negative I have is now I have to wait even longer for book 3! Reintgen did not disappoint with this gem!

I’ve thought long and hard about what I wanted to say in this review. Being book 2, and with the way book 1 ended, I decided that I can’t really talk about the characters, because that would give away who survived and who didn’t. I did fall in love with Emmett more in this one (he’s all over the synopsis, so not a spoiler). His personality really came through in this one and he grew in strength and character. I also really loved how the decisions he made seemed to link back to the strength and character of his father and the lessons he taught Emmett.

I realized I couldn’t say much about the plot either, to avoid spoilers. It was exciting though. It was surprising and unpredictable, and kept the same feeling as book 1. It had some mild predictability to it, but that certainly wasn’t a bad thing. There were plenty of shocking moments that made it exhilarating and heart pounding!

The world development was vivid and outstanding, too! Reintgen did an incredible job with creating Eden. He included such rich detail and description that I could visualize and experience everything in my mind. I really loved the imagination he used to develop the world, and the Adamite race.

All in all, this was a fantastic second book. I’ve loved the series so far, and the minute I finished this one, I wanted to go back and read both books again! Nyxia Unleashed was worth the wait, and I felt like there were enough details in the story that would make it very re-readable.

Thank you to NetGalley, and the publisher, for providing this free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you, NetGalley, for an ARC of this book. My thoughts in this review are all my own and are not influenced in any way.

Nyxia Unleashed by Scott Reintgen is the second book of The Nyxia Triad. I have a review of the first book, [b:Nyxia|27426044|Nyxia (The Nyxia Triad, #1)|Scott Reintgen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1485432778s/27426044.jpg|47477446]. This review has spoilers from the first book. There will be no spoilers for this book, though.

The characters you know and love from Nyxia are back and pushed to their limits. They make it onto Eden to mine the foreign substance nyxia, but slowly find out that things aren't what they seem. Babel's true intentions are slowly revealed as the two Genesis crews form an alliance with Adamites, the residents of Eden. In a war between Babel and the Adamites, the Genesis crew must work together and choose a side, both of which may have dire consequences.

Emmett, the main character, is as delightful as ever. This book has you rooting for him the whole time and agreeing with every decision he makes. We learn more about the rest of the crew through their growing relationships with Emmett.

The writing was difficult to get through at first, but I adapted pretty quickly to the writing style. Reintgen is very straightforward in his writing. There weren't many poetic quotes that had me swooning and grabbing the nearest highlighter (let's ignore the fact that I read this on an e-reader), but the writing still stuck with me.

This sequel introduced so many new things (animals, traditions, characters/development), but it still left me feeling lacking. So much could have been explained more or introduced again later on, but the ending fell flat. Perhaps the next book will cover more.

The plot thickens, as they say. The character development is excellent and the story just gets more and more exciting!

I'm excited that Unleashed picked up right where Nyxia left off and was just as thrilling! One thing I love about this series is the twists and turns that keep you guessing. Some of the surprises are dark, but not overly much for YA which I appreciate. Next to the creativity of Nyxia and how I really enjoy that it's power lies in the power that the user gives it and it isn't a limitless substance, my favorite thing about this series remains the diverse cast of characters and how real they seem. From the characters you fall in love with to the ones you want to hate, all are multi-faceted and never just one thing.

I also really enjoy how the characters aren't silly or childish, just because they're young. The majority come from some pretty heavy backgrounds and that has shaped them. They may look and act like teenagers to some aspect, but there's also a jadedness to them that I relate very well to because of where I grew up. They don't look at the world with rose colored glasses and just because Babel has offered them the opportunity of a lifetime it doesn't mean they go into the situation with eyes wide shut. Babel picked them because they thought they would be easy to manipulate because of their backgrounds, but their backgrounds are what enable them to walk into the situation and see the truth for what it really is. These kids make some very serious and complex adult observations and decisions that they may not have been, had they been sheltered.

This leads me to another thing I was really excited about: How the matter of colonization and it's widespread effects were handled, as well as oppression, sexuality, PTSD, trauma, social diversity and social privilege, just to name a FEW, and it's all dressed up in this action packed, fast paced read through incredibly engaging narration.

That doesn't even include the romance, which I liked and believed a lot more in this book than in the first.

This is hands down my favorite YA SFF, without a doubt, and this author is definitely an auto-buy for me.
