Another good story by Rowling. I enjoyed it a lot, especially getting back with Cormoran Strike.

What can I say? I love a mystery where I don't put the pieces together until just before the big reveal.

Gobbled it up.
Cormoran Strike and his "secretary" are at it again, this time investigating the horrific murder of an annoying and unpopular author. Loved the writing references, the romantic tension, the subtle and sometimes obvious clues, and the superb storytelling of JK Rowling.

Disclaimer: I read the first book years ago, bought the next two and then kept them on my shelf for years. I got these before JKR's transphobia-and-wizard-poop phase, and I'm reading them because I'm trying to kill my TBR this year. Yup, I have books on there from more than five years ago. I'm not proud either.

Good parts first. I didn't see the killer reveal coming and I liked the publishing world setting. The investigation itself kept me interested. Long story short: The plot was decent. Could have gotten a four, if only the characters hadn't made the story weaker.

Speaking of. Jesus Christ. I could literally not care less about Robin and Strike's artificially drawn out romance. This is so slow-burn that Jane Austen would have fallen asleep. Robin has a Fast and Furious moment somewhere in the middle, other than that her character is 60% making coffee and 40% wedding planning. I'm exhausted. Matthew was so one-dimensional it was almost painful.

The women in this series are either
a) bitches
b) "plain/mousy" (aka ugly)
c) beautiful women who admire Strike
- and, my favorite -
d) bitches who admire Strike.

Seriously, Strike is somewhere between London's most eligible bachelor and a horny self-insert's wet dream. His sister's "husband-desperate" friend pines over him, a young beautiful woman is suddenly super thirsty for this middle-aged dude who treats her like a sexy nuisance, his even MORE beautiful young assistant is definitely not in love with him (Matthew is SO wrong!11!!!1), all the female suspects and the victim's wife are looking at their superhero protector with starry eyes. And STOP mentioning his hair looks like pubes. Not only is it weird, since not everyone's pubes look the same, it's not even that good of a metaphor. Did I mention I'm exhausted?

Read this after watching the programme on BBC one, did enjoy the book. Some of the storyline was a little unbelievable towards the end but love a good detective story and love the main character Strike. Wanted to read this before the third book to get the back story on the main characters. Now need to read the third before watching it on BBC.

This book was amazing. I was left in the dark up until the end, however, I quickly sped through the last 100 pages today. The end was amazing! I did not see that was coming. The character development in this installment was also great, whether it was Strike or Robin. The writing was amazing-I can't believe that it's taken me this long to read this novel as I read the Cuckoo's Calling back in December. Furthermore, I can't wait to read Career of Evil!
