No, no e semplicemente no.

A little bit too much abuse for my romance reading.
Genevieve is kidnapped and her face knifed and then raped and abused mentally and physically for a year until she talks her abuser into kidnaping another woman whose clans come to rescue her and kill the abuser.
Maybe a 3.5 because it illustrates how enablers like to blame the victim and how the victim can internalize the shame, but not a light romance read.

Ooof, not as great as the first in the series. Banks was getting her highlanders with names starting with B messed up at the beginning (using Brodie and Bowen interchangeably there for a hot second) and if I had to read “he could have any girl he crooked his finger at” one more time I might’ve ripped my eyeballs out BUT still a decent story. I made it through. Another reviewer described this as a “potato”; “its pleasant enough if you read the first book, but it isn’t really new or exciting” and I felt that
I've read Maya Banks before but never tried her highlander series before, when it came available on my online audio books series I thought I would check it out. I read book 1 & 2 back to back and the stories flowed together to the point that I had a hard time remember which was which after. It also makes me want to keep reading this series. I like the characters and the writing and the narration on audio is good.
Such a sweet story. It's very difficult not to fall in love with the characters and expect justice for whatever was wrongly done to them. Bowen is a sweet and just (and sexy) as his brother. Genevieve is strong, stronger than many would expect after such mistreatment. The only downside is I want to read the next book and have to wait too long!
This book should have never come out. Its only plot device was rape and other forms of violence against women. Honestly there wasn't really a plot to begin with, the whole focus is a woman's survival story that the author manages to make about the man and his heroics. I loathed this book, because I wanted to like the characters and their love story, but it was page after page of glorifying trauma. By the end of it I wasn't just deeply disgusted, but also somehow extremely bored. 0/5.
