3.5 stars
It is a tale of horror and loss and I don't know what to write about after because it will be a spoiler.
Starting with what I liked about the book is first of all the writing, It's really good, second the setting of the book it's good; the author captures the essence of Indian cities as far as I've seen. The intense sequences are dealt with really well because you feel the intensity through the words and the way he writes a monologue captures me to the page also.
The most glaring negative I have to say for the book is, that book doesn't give you a definitive ending, the secrets are not all revealed, and it feels like and end of the 1st book in a duology if he nailed the ending it would have been an excellent book because up until 80% mark this was a solid 4.5-star book for me.
This is my first Dan Simmons book and for an introduction, I'm satisfied and excited to check out his other works

I could mince words, but it would be a waste of both of our time. Succinctly put, this was a very disturbing, disorienting book. It was recommended reading somewhere along the line, but the source escapes me. I was intrigued by its rave reviews and the assurance that it was brilliant and terrifying.

For the life of me, I do not understand how this book made it to my ‘to be read’ list. The genre is not what I would choose, the story is not something that appeals to me, the setting is off putting and disturbing and I have no recollection of wanting to read this. Yet, there it was, so I read it, and I wish I hadn’t.
It’s fine. It’s an odd tale and some of the story held my interest, obviously, or I wouldn’t have finished it. But, how did it get to me? I guess it doesn’t matter. The rating reflects my feelings for the experience…you may find it wonderful if it’s your sort of thing.
