This started out a little slow for me,  but picked up and maintained a good pace after about the first quartet.  Good book.  Could have been longer.

Nightshade by Michael Connelly was a solid read. The pacing kept me engaged, and I enjoyed the investigative twists throughout. While it didn’t completely blow me away, it was still a good book overall—well-written and entertaining. I’d give it 3.75 stars.

Entertaining if not his best. The intrigue of murder and corruption. The usual. The main character is very much flawed but comes through in the end. A great summer read.

This police procedural mystery brought all that I was looking for in a cop drama...the initial crime that is surrounded by mystery and intrigue along with an initial shock factor, the discovery work that is detailed but not overwhelming, the complex secrets revealed, all the while getting insight into how the detective’s mind works to solve the crime. Detective Stilwell finds himself juggling two cases, a body found in the bottom of a harbor and illegal poaching on the island. I was wholly invested and was not disappointed in the conclusion.
I experienced this on audio and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The sole male narrator, Will Dameon, has a smooth, calming voice sprinkled with appropriately timed emotions that captivated me and held my interest. His pacing of the narration was just right that so was able to keep up with the details and still be swept away with the overall story. A well done audiobook!
Thanks to Hachette Audio for the gifted audiobook.
