I enjoyed the events explored in this memoir, but I felt like the writer thrives more in journalism than in storytelling. I didn’t see as much lyrical language or interesting plot structure as I would have liked, and I feel like this book relies heavily on the author’s relationship and proximity to famous icons. However, I am happy I read this and glad to see a story about a woman who helped make famous men’s lives easier, as it is a tale, often left out of the history books, as old as time.

It took me a minute to get into the book— written in a quick, direct style that reminds me of other authors who are also cooks and chefs. I suppose it matches the fast-paced kitchens they work in. Or an impulse to propel the reader forward to the next course lest we spend too much time on the drugs and alcohol and other unsavory bits.
