A nice, quick book that's fascinating and fun but seemed aimless.

LOVED this book except for its depictions of women. Terribly sexist the few times women were mentioned, but otherwise very enjoyable and laugh-out-loud funny at surprising moments. Would've been 5 stars if not for the terrible depictions of women. But honestly still definitely worth the read.

The perfect book for a busy period where abandoning everything is a very attractive idea. From the outset I enjoyed this quiet novel as it roamed about Finland on various ordinary and madcap adventures.

In a way I found it similar in spirit to Alison Moore's The Lighthouse - if you enjoyed Hare and haven't read Lighthouse you should hop to
it.

Started out charming, got weird.

For such a short (!) book it took me a really really long time to read this. The reason is simple: I thought this was going to be an endearing novel about a man and his animal companion going on a journey together - and it is, but it's also not.

It's over the top and mundane at the same time, quirky (sadly not in a fun way in my opinion) and weird and nothing but also a lot happens simultaneously. Contrary to my expectations, it actually made me very sad instead of happy because the people in this book are mostly not nice and make bad decisions without any described reason.
Spoiler Like, why did the mc randomly drink alcohol with some guy he just met while a forest fire is ravishing the forest around them?? Why did the men that wanted some wood for the sauna beat the mc up and let their dogs hunt him down to 'teach him a lesson'??? why did leila randomly accept his 'proposal' and help him out of prison???
It made no sense to me and the majority of the plot points only happened because they were probably meant to be funny. I wanted to find this charming but it was quite the opposite for me.
