So charming and delightful, which is really fun to see holds true through the translation-- kudos to the translator just as much as the author.

A really fun, quirky, quick read that basically takes the set characters, reimagines them in each short story as a different part of the animal kingdom, and uses that animal and its nature to make commentary, insights, or just silly jokes about the human nature of love, sex, and relationships. The fact that the author clearly dove deep into the biology of each animal to make these scientifically accurate is the icing on the cake.

So happy this was recommended by one of the workers at Exile in Bookville in Chicago, this is a book I can see myself recommended or even gifting for a fun read to anyone.

This is a really funny clever book, written by a biologist, and what he does is use the mating habits of all these different species of animals to reflect on the ridiculousness, the tragedy, the beauty, and the futility of the human animal's mating games. Viskovitz, in the various interconnected stories in this book, is at times a shark, a rat, a lion, a praying mantis, a pig, an ant, a bee...and his fumblings in all these forms to find love-and-sex, sex-and-love, are both hilarious and tragic. It's a really terrific, creative book, guaranteed to both delight and horrify. Watch out for self-impregnating, hermaphroditic snails!

Clever, satirical 21st century animal fables. Each fable features the lead character Viskovitz trying to find love as a different animal including a dog, an elk, a spider and a microbe. Boffa anthropomorphizes the animals so that they have human emotions such as lust, affection and jealousy. If you want a total break and 180 degree turn from whatever you've been reading lately, I recommend this book.

I picked this up because I like Roz Chast's illustrations and a book with her drawings on the outside automatically looks appealing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am very glad I read it. Great fun!

A funny mix of fables, irony, satire, human typology and delicious language. I loled a lot, which is, I think, the ultimate aim of it.
