Loved the big family! Particularly well done: depicting family resemblances and the change of characters over time.

The additions the author makes to vampire lore added some fascinating twists to the story.

I found the action in the vampire / wolf battle scenes hard to follow when the artwork depicted large crowds.

This book was very hard to put down! It did a great job of catching my attention. I loved the theme of family (both chosen and birth). The characters were fun too. There were times I rooted for the characters and other times they just stressed me out with their choices! Very fun read!

I love how the colors shifted with the mood or time of day. I also loved that each chapter's title page had a cute little photo, it was such a neat detail!

What a fantastic book!! Definitely one of my favourites so far this year. Firstly, the art style was wonderful. Stephens used light incredibly well to convey atmosphere; her use of colour palettes only enhanced this. In terms of the story, it was paced so well. I especially liked how we gradually found out about Artie’s parents’ love story, and what happened to her dad. Stephen also provided new (at least to me) takes on werewolves and vampires which gave depth to her worldbuilding. In terms of characters, there was fantastic character development in Artie, but also in side characters such as her mum. Also, I wasn’t expecting the found family trope in this story but I was so happy it was there and developed like it did. Truly, love in all its forms finds a place in this book (platonic, romantic, familial) which is one of its best features!

Thank you to NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Artie and the Wolf Moon is scheduled for release on September 7th, 2021.

Artie Irvin is in eighth grade (which is stressful enough as it is) when she finds out that her mom is a werewolf and guess what? SO IS ARTIE! This story follows Artie as she comes into her own as both a wolf and a teenager over her last year before high school as she meets new family and friends who change her life in a number of ways.

Artie never got to meet her dad, but we learn about her parents’ history over a series of flashbacks that depict their beautiful and heartbreaking story from the first moment they meet to the last time they ever see each other. (yes, i would read a full length prequel about them even though most of their relationship milestones are depicted in here.)

I grew up in the Twilight era, so the werewolf v. vampire story is a tale as old as time as far as I’m concerned, but this story takes vampire mythology in a direction that I’ve never seen before (i don’t consume a lot of vampire media so don’t come for me if you’ve seen it before). In this universe you can’t kill a vampire if you know what’s good for you which raises the stakes of their threat to an incredible degree that never truly goes away.

This story is a fun, fast, and emotional read appropriate for readers of all ages. I would highly recommend and I’m looking forward to what else Olivia Stephens has in store for us.
