This holiday book was different from the norm as it sifted through some very serious familial issues.  I enjoyed this as a break from the usual holiday fluff.  I feel like the romance part of the book was a bit rushed and thrown in, but I think this book is still a good choice for those who enjoy a good holiday read.

This is a cosy and heartwarming Christmas read.

Imogen is well liked and successful in her job but the home life that she portrays to her work colleagues is one that she has created.

Underneath a brave front is a lonely young woman rejected by her own mother. It highlights the reality that Christmas is a difficult time for many and this certainly was the case for Imogen.

Dorothy is a client of Imogen’s and they both enjoy catching up for a meal socially whilst doing business successfully. Dorothy offers Imogen somewhere to escape for Christmas. An idyllic but secluded cottage in the woodland on the outskirts of a friendly village seems to be the perfect place to go.

Imogen does not realise the secrets that are going to come to light.

This is an easy read romance which was enjoyable in the sense that you get a nice Christmas feel but ir was quite predictable.

It was easy to spot the twist in the story and it did seem quite rushed to fit into a neatly tied up ending. Imogen went from being lonely and living in a  poor part of London to having a big family around her, a new romance, a cottage in the Cotswolds and a dog.

It ended quickly and I’d like to have known how things panned out when Imogen went back to London with her work colleagues and mother.

A lovely seasonal read. Well-constructed and perhaps having a bit more depth than many books within this genre.
