wow. i devoured this one. really amazing story on what makes the human spirit. much as the narrator kept searching for answers and always came up with nothing, i felt the same way with this book, reading as fast as i could only to find out there was no satisfying explanation. still loved it though

This will easily be a book I return to year after year.
For a book with such minimal prose, every single word was earned, deserved, and necessary. I finished the book and just sat there slack-jawed. I am still thinking about this story months later.
It’s bleak and leaves you with more questions than answers (which can be frustrating for readers who need a clear, concise ending), but it is a powerful story of life and its meaning (or lack-thereof), death, love, freedom.
I eagerly await my reread.

This is a weird one. The French seem to love thinking and writing about what it means to be human. I Who Have Never Known Men is a journey through which raises the question of what makes people human, when all is stripped away. I was a little annoyed to not really find anything out by the end, but ultimately I'm glad to have read this
