I saw so much of myself in the protagonist from the start: the feelings of inadequacy and being left out, the maladaptive daydreaming as a form of escape, the need to know everything just to know... I hung on to her every thought and they're still hanging on to me

Engaging but not groundbreaking, I wonder if some of the beauty gets lost in translation. While the prose is pretty enough, it’s meaning itself leaves me more nihilistic than when I began. I do not find these themes to be new, and I find no unique greatness in ruminating over them in such a short format. It’s interesting that in a literary quest for the rediscovery of human nature at the (presumable) fall of civilization, we find the narrator firmly circling back to the expected structures of society as we know them. Altering a clock does not stray nearly far enough.
Despite being a narrative that has no traditional answers, it leaves little room for questions—the narrator seems to answer them all anyway.
TLDR; tries to be philosophical, doesn’t go very deep. Light on substance. Would maybe hold up in ‘95, does not hold up in ‘25.

This book should be taught in schools. Is also a great depiction of what life really means and what it means to "live." As a reader you are hopeful along with the characters in the book, experiencing all the emotions and things move forward. The ending made me sad-- but this book is incredibly reflective.
