Originally when I completed this book I was left feeling unsatisfied. Having spent some time to actually think about it, I realised that my dissatisfaction was less because the book was not what I expected it to be and more because it wasn’t what I wanted to be. As a certified manhater I was ready to see some man bashing. Instead, the book had a quiet tension, wrestling more with the idea of personhood than the idea of femininity/masculinity. It’s seemed to ask “who are we when we’re alone?” and “who are we when we don’t have answers?” I wanted answers soooooo bad, but there is not a single one and there was something oddly impactful about being left wanting.
