I was waiting for something to happen until the last page. I do however appreciate what it felt like to be in the mind of this main character, just not the type of book I typically would enjoy.

This books was an incredibly poignantly look at what humanity is when stripped away of social expectations. This story is a mystery that can never be answer and one that begs you to ask the question what is it about us that makes us human, and what would you do with your humanity without hope.
This main character is a young girl who has only ever know life in this prison with 39 other women.
She is both an outsider and also a crucial member of their self constructed society.
She is a great example that hope is a flower that blooms in every the sparseus and driest of deserts. Even though she had never know anything else she couldn't help but dream and want!
She is the person whos hope lasts the longest in a hopeless world.

People were not lying when they said this was bleak and depressing. I dont think I was in the right mood for this book and found it hard to get motivated to finish. The initial setup of a bunker/prison of women underground felt original breaking down the relationships and internal conflicts, and I’m glad the entire story didn’t revolve too long around this setup. I loved the sci-fi aspect and mostly liked the narrative style. It feels very philosophical in its approach to understanding what is happening and knowing you may never get real answers. This won’t be for everyone but it was refreshing to have female perspective between the characters and author after reading so many male driven sci-fi stories.
