I enjoyed this book very much. The world, magic system, and characters are interesting, and the story is fast-paced with found family and heist story vibes. There are some grimmer, more graphic parts, but it isn't overdone or gratuitous. The ending is satisfying enough that I don't feel like I need to read the next one in the series immediately, but I will probably get to it sometime.

Very fun steampunk fantasy set in a Venice environment

simply amazing. Freaking loved the characters, the plot, the pace, the magic system *chef’s kiss*

sancia is powerful, smart, loyal, amazing, etc etc. I LOVE her and felt refreshing to read about a FMC who’s not annoying and making supid decisions without thought.

also love the found family vibes, CLEF and gregor AHHH. i think i literally LOLed a few times reading this. This read like a movie and i felt like i was just hallucinating for 8hrs a day when reading this.

i am glad i picked this book up and PLS everyone read it

This book hooked me the moment I picked it up. My only problem is that I took so long to read it

I have mixed opinions on this one. For a good majority of this book I was immersed in the unique world and systems in place. However, I felt like it was a little bit too long. I found myself skim reading parts because I felt like it was dragging and just wanted to get back to the action.

I did like the characters but I felt like maybe there were a few too many, at points I was confused about who was who and their roles within the story. It took a lot to understand who was who and keep track of what each character was up too. I'm not sure that is a criticism of the book or just my lack of experience with the specific genre.

Also, what is it with fantasy authors making up their own swear words? It is a serious dislike of mine within a book and it really grates on me. Just use a swear word we all use please!

Anyway, I didn't love this book but I definitely didn't hate it. I don't think I will be necessarily carrying on with the series. However, a lot of my review might be down to my inexperience with the specific genre.
