I read the newest book by this author (the tainted cup) and was so excited to have a new favorite fantasy author. This book is a testimony to how much an author can improve 😂 by page 40 I was already so over the narration, and couldn’t bring myself to read 500 pages of it.

This was pretty decent and enjoyable. I read it for a book club so the back of my mind was buzzing the whole time with the feeling that it was like homework (being a mood reader does not help in these situations lol). I felt a lot of similarities with Mistborn and enjoyed delving into the magic system as it got more complex and intricate.

There were some general issues with infodumping at some points, and the characters as a cast aren't anything to write home about, but on the whole I did enjoy it, and would eventually pick up the rest of the trilogy.

Magical heists are the perfect travel read! I crushed this book over a couple of plane rides. It was exciting, gripping, with really cool worldbuilding and characters you can't help but root for. Pumped to read the next one where we better get more of the promised sapphic romance
