This was a refreshing fantasy novel with incredibly original ideas!! Despite taking forever to finish this book (blame university for that one), it was such a fun roller coaster of action and magic-related intrigue. I loved the world building around scriving and how the lore fed into the overall plot. I also really enjoyed these characters and the dynamics they had with each other; Sancia, Clef, and Orso were my standouts, but each character was interesting and distinctive.
My main critique would be that some scenes in the middle probably didn’t need to be there (mostly a lot of talk about planning and the segment of time jumps). I think all the little time jumps weren’t needed, but that’s only a tiny nit-pick.
Overall, this was a great read and I’m super excited for the next book!
