Quite abrupt ending, an extra paragraph to set it up would've done the story good, maybe even an extra chapter. Otherwise the story is very memorable, with both unexpected twists that leave the reader speechless and plenty of food for thought. Of course, it could be argued that the plot isn't believable, especially when it comes to the "devil" woman, and it's pretty obvious as you read, that this is one of Tolstoy's works where he gets to play out his fantasy life of self-sacrifice, but I don't believe that takes too much away from it.

‘He once nearly threw out of the window another cadet who had begun to tease him about his collection of minerals’, me too bro.
