While I enjoyed this feminist retelling of the Medusa-myth overall, I felt the prose was at times very beautiful and poetic and other times in a very simple and 21st century YA-style. While reading Medusa‘s story I wished it felt less like an romanticized ordeal of an angsty teenager and went more into the backstory and memories. Overall a quick read that doesn’t offer too many new insights into the well-known myth other than a empowering spin towards the end.

Favorite line: “Athena is a bitch”
I appreciate the sisterhood in this book, and the bluntness of what Poseidon did, the betrayal of Athena, the delusion of Perseus, and Burton’s prose. Is it a retelling which sticks to the myth(s)? No. Maybe, if I knew this was, as Medusa says, a retelling from a different universe, I would’ve enjoyed it more, but that’s on me.
