I really enjoyed this book. I thought I was going to give it 5 stars and I probably would have if it had been a few chapters longer. I did not like the ending.
They didn't even speak their feelings, it was just implied. And for the whole book revolving about those too figuring out their lifes and emotions it's quite frustrating to not actually do that with their feelings towards each other.

But other than that I thought the book was really good. I maybe should have read some trigger warnings first because I was quite shocked when the rape scene happened. I did not expect it at all. It wasn't exploitative but in enough detail to make me uncomfortable.

There are definitely some darker themes and important topics but I think they were handled in a great way.

I really enjoyed that Penny wrote a story that we also got to read. I thought it was really good and interesting and I always like 'books' in books and that type of thing.

I might reread this and give it 5 stars in a few years. Who knows.

Pros: I thought the characters were interesting, and the texting format was fun. Cons: I thought some of the dialogue tried a bit too hard or felt forced.

Also a note of warning that even though this seems like more of a romcom/breezy book, it deals with quite a lot of serious topics that I think could potentially be triggering.

How is this such a simple YA Romance and still SO much more. God, I loved this. The humor is like salted caramel -  exactly to my taste (Am I phrasing this correctly? It sounds weird in my head but I don't know how else to articulate this). Every character feels fleshed out and is likeable or at least complex enough so you can't hate them.
I don't want a boyfriend, I want a Sam.

I love how these characters were exactly who they are. Incredibly readable and relatable and heart flippy

"Some people’s coping mechanisms were all about festering and secrecy and ruminating until you grew yourself a nice little tumor in your heart with a side of panic attack. Different strokes.”

Pretty enjoyable book to read. It's about Sam and Penny, who met in a not so cute way and after that they begin to text all the time. Their relationship is based on texting and they rarely meet irl, but are there for each other all the time.

This book is told in dual perspectives, switching between Sam and Penny each chapter. I love that the romance is not focused on flirting all the time, but through their relationship and their texting, we get to see each characters' struggle. Like other Mary H.K. Choi book that I've read, the characters are flawed but in realistic way.
