I really went back and forth on what to rate this book. It came highly recommended, and there are so many wonderful turns of phrase and moments of feeling SEEN in it. The author has a gift for explaining so much of the human experience. Even so, I didn't find myself falling in love with the characters and I felt so many problems could have been resolved with communication. I would likely read something else by this author, but only if the blurb really stood out to me.

This is my third reread of Beach Read and every time I love this book even more. Currently I'm making my non bookish friends read this book for our first book club just so everyone in my life is forced to hear me talking about this book.
Emily Henry's banter coupled with Julia Whelan's narration always gets me. I have laughed out loud and cried at this book too many times to count. The struggles of January and Gus hit me differently every time and I’m taken aback by how Emily Henry can write such beautifully flawed people and relationships. I can remember everything I felt when I first read this book and how it helped me through my own struggles in each reread.
From the first page of this reread I was sucked back into Emily Henry’s world and couldn’t put the book down. Beach Read has unending rereadability potential, I don’t see myself ever not wanting to experience this book again. This book and Book Lovers are always fighting to be my favourite Emily Henry.

I enjoyed the characters-being-authors aspect of the book paired with the rivals to lovers trope. The book unfolded its portrayed of the complexities of family and love in a thoughtful and enjoyable way.
