This book started slowly, and I almost put it down and walked away a couple of times. I've really enjoyed JoJo's books, so o kept telling myself it was going to get better. I enjoyed the characters and the story line, but it wasn't as "obvious" as I was expecting, which frustrated me.
I am a first time reader of Jojo Moyes and went in with few expectations.
I was slowly drawn to the characters but just when it all got interesting the book fast forwarded a number of years and moved onto new characters.
All in all not a bad read but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to anyone.

2 1/2 really. Kind of disappointing for a Jojo Moyes book.
Oh well, they can’t all be perfect.
An inappropriately long story about lovers who would have avoided an unnecessary lifetime of pain and heartache had they JUST COMMUNICATED.
Reasons this wasn’t her strongest romance:
I didn’t feel the love and affection for the characters I thought I should - at the point that I normally do with Moyes’ typical character arcs.
Anyone else get confused at the description of the love at first site between Lottie and Guy? Her surprise/ shock/ fright upon seeing him for the first time as though she “recognized” him made me immediately assume this was a long lost brother or relation she was in some way trying to avoid! Ugh ...their connection and “unmistakable magnetism” wasn’t as undeniable as Moyes wanted us to feel. I didn’t feel it and certainly didn’t buy the outcome at the end. Really? All Lottie needed after 50 years was closure to move on? Then she could really give it a proper go with Joe?! Give me a break.
Why was Lottie so disapproving of Daisy when she first arrived as a single mom if that was LITERALLY what had happened to Lottie? Shouldn’t she have been more understanding straight off the bat?
Can we also not try and cram three love stories in one novel? One inevitably suffers with such a dilution of focus. Better not to have the third one at all maybe?

This was an enjoyable listen. It was a little less smooth in the middle than her newer books. The two storylines were individually very well done, but the transition together was a little choppy. The narration was wonderful, though, and I am very glad I stuck with it.

Called WINDFALLEN when I read it. Meh. Not nearly as good as her others. Plot was interesting but just didn’t catch me. Told in two periods-Lottie gets mixed up with artists living in the modern boho house in her small seaside town. Decades later Daisy is in charge of renovating the same house and learns its history.
On such a JoJo Moyes kick right now. This one reads like lighter, fluffier, more romantic [a:Jane Gardam|20838|Jane Gardam|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1264017642p2/20838.jpg] (who is one of my favorites). Perfect beach read.
I liked the 1950s sections much better than the contemporary sections. Looking forward to reading more of [a:Jojo Moyes|281810|Jojo Moyes|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1400624880p2/281810.jpg]'s historical-ish fiction. Also, I wish the US publisher had kept the original title, Foreign Fruit, or kept something with the "Fruit" theme for the title, at least...makes more sense for the story.

Another feel good, twist and turn, somewhat predictable book from Ms. Moyes! I adore these books and this author!
