Didion's style is brutal and honest, particularly her take on the south, relative to her experience of her home west in the states. The style of writing works perfect with the location. She creates an interaction of landscape and bodies, moving together in the same slow and saturated way. Much like the bayou and delta of mississippi, the stories feel heavy and waterlogged at times.

Her disdain for the south is strong, and often her self-indulgent writing can tire you by the end.

Overall, true Didion writing. A cohesive story - no, but a collection of thoughts that are worth glimpsing for real Didion fans eager for more of her words.
