Hey, it's a series of famous fairy tales, with a dark, Dahlishly funny twist. I mean, it's probably a 10 min read, but it's worth it if you love Roald Dahl as well.

I loved this book so much as a kid. I was always a bit more mature for my age so I really got the humour of it all. I would read it again and again. I'm a bit upset that I have no idea where my copy is anymore.

Six revolting fairy tales with that Dahlesque twist.

In 1983, Revolting Rhymes won the Vlag en Wimpel Penseeljury.

My Take
Ya just gotta love Dahl! He is so perfectly in tune with children's hearts! He's a bit like Bugs Bunny in that the surface craziness appeals to the child while the deeper exploration cracks up the adult in us.

Most Dahl is a buy!

The Tales
Cinderella should encourage all the nice guys out there that they do have a chance.

Jack and the Beanstalk causes Jack to realize the value of a daily bath.

Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs hit it big at the race track.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears reveals just how lucky Goldilocks was not to be taken to court.

Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf is too funny and such a useful end!

The Three Little Pigs. Oh, sigh, that third little pig had the right idea. he just didn't take the right precautions.

The Cover
Very Dahl with its rough sketch and cartoony figures seen through an inset picture with the Wolf reading Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes to two children trapped in his lap as they sit in a chair and pictures from fairy tales framed on the pale blue wall behind them. All set within a teal-green background.

The title is true enough as it's Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes that turn the fairy tales we remember on their heads with a very worldly view.
