I'm not sure if this book was intended to be so brief or if its size is due to the scarcity of primary sources on Æthelstan. It certainly left me wanting more. I'm off to reading [a:Sarah Foot|362533|Sarah Foot|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/f_50x66-6a03a5c12233c941481992b82eea8d23.png]'s [b:Æthelstan: The First King of England|10361524|Æthelstan The First King of England|Sarah Foot|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1328828204l/10361524._SX50_.jpg|15264540] to see if I get more information.

Found the book to be interesting and well written. Though I didn't find it as engaging as Holland's other books, he's done a good job enlightening his readers about this important historical figure.

I enjoyed the book, even though it felt a little rushed and shallow.

Beautifully written. Reads almost like how a monk would write. Fascinated to know had Athelstan not seized the moment a different Kingdom of England ruled from York might have instead took hold. Very much a King we English do not know enough of, and the Author makes that passive aggressively obvious in some parts - validly so. Thank you for this.

This was a good book! Just that I was very distracted while reading it and wasn't able to get into it as well as I would have liked. Also, I'm just not familiar with history that far back, although I really need to remedy that soon. I'll have to reread this one someday.
