Obviously I had known that this book is a classic but I was still absolutely blown away of how good it is. It is double-plus-good. The only part that I thought dragged is when Winston is reading the manifesto. Besides that, it is so captivating, influential and horrifying. I don't have the words to articulate how much this resonated with me. 1984 really is that bitch!!

I didn’t like this book. The concept is fascinating, and I loved the idea of the plot.
I hated Julia, and I hated her introduction to Winston. It makes zero sense. I hated her personality, and I hated how there was no depth to that relationship. The author didn’t fledge out their relationship whatsoever, all they did was have sex.
O Brien being a thought police also made zero sense. The author could’ve spent more time developing the relationship between him and Winston to make that entire part of the story shocking???

You can just tell this book was written by a man with a huge ego. There are about 100 pages of this book, that is the character reading book full of information we already know. The things mentioned during this part of the book could’ve been summarized in 10 pages (maybe even less!)
Actually, I hate this book. The chapters are too long and it COULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD.

1984 is a truly magnificent piece of literature, George Orwell wrote a warning and it's fascinating to think what he would think of the modern world if he were still alive.

This masterpiece is everything a science fiction reader would want and expect in an early dystopian novel. As a lover of early science fiction and dystopia (as well as a reader who has thoroughly enjoyed George Orwell before), I don’t know why I haven’t read this wonderful book yet and I have zero regrets having read it.

This is perhaps the best dystopian novel I have ever read (and it has some tough competition). I truly loved falling into this completely imperfect world and dipping into the mind and warnings of Orwell’s futuristic plain.

The worldbuilding of 1984 is perfect. I love how such a small book can bring such a full world to life (the world-building is akin to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and Brave New World, which are even shorter novels, but the worlds are all built so beautifully and rapidly). Orwell completely fleshed out and finalised his world and I found no faults in his creation. With the technology and knowledge we have access to in the 21st century, Orwell’s experimental existence feels all the more possible and relatable.

At the beginning of the novel Orwell, a writer, talks about the end of writing and expression in all forms, particularly words. In 1984, writing is not allowed, there is no freedom of speech or mentality, and the way Orwell talks about writing as a form of time travel is so beautiful and touching, particularly when looking back on the novel from a modern perspective. I read his words, written 76 years ago in a world where we are surrounded by technology, much of which could be used to spy on us if wanted to (and many people believe that it does). What would Orwell say about this society today?

Orwell was so completely ahead of his time; he talked about technologies that are almost what we created but had no idea of their development. Rather than reaching for an insanely futuristic world, he creates a realm that clearly could exist and thus his warnings and the meanings behind this work of art are all the more real.

The writing and characters of his magnificent world are amazing. It’s not hard to sympathise with Wilson and understand his thoughts and feelings, his character feels entirely emotional (something that most science fiction novels I have read do not express in the same manner). The lack of emotion experienced and expressed by other characters is as daunting to the audience as it is to Wilson and helps readers connect even further with the main character and his ideals. The reader feels a similar shock as Wilson when discovering other characters' lack of emotion and care over elements that truly shock him and the reader.

The plot was everything one would expect and it isn’t hard to decipher many of Orwell's meanings behind the experiences of the characters and reader (especially if the audience were to have a working knowledge of the time and social landscape Orwell writes in).

Truly have nothing negative to say about this book. Although I suppose that there are some elements very synonymous with the time which I would completely condone in current writing, however understanding the social and political landscape of the time and the messages behind this wonderful novel one can forgive certain issues.

Overall, magnificent and perfect. If you are a fan of science fiction (particularly early science fiction and dystopia) I would say give it a go, this is certainly not a book for everyone but I adored it.
