lended and recommended by my friend, neeti
thought provoking, easy to get lost in and memorable characters (minimal names, even characters like syme or mr charrington struck me as important, and rather interesting). thoroughly enjoyed this read - often it feels as though reading classics is a chore, but especially not this book.

Just gonna copy my texts to my friend about it

I’ve been a big fan of V for Vendetta since I was 11 and it was very easy to see where those authors got a lot of inspo from

O’Brien being the one to do the majority of the written interrogation really drove home the hopelessness of rebellion in this society (in that he was the one to bring them into the ‘brotherhood’ and then used all this to betray and arrest Winston and Julia)

While reading it I found myself disliking Julia and I still can’t tell if it was bc of Winston’s pov since he doesn’t really respect her as a person or bc like if I were to personally meet her I wouldn’t like her

Overall 4.5 stars bc it was brilliant but I fucking hate Winston

i understand the relevance and impact but it wasn't an enjoyable read. newspeak, the main form of language, was the most interesting part of this novel
