This was an insane book. It leaves so many unanswered questions, and it also seems like something that definitely could happen in real life.
We are watched at all times, and the government(s) do not care about us, they just care about power and our conformity. They hate religion, they hate family. The world leaders hate all that’s good in the world.
Cling to God while the world falls apart! If you don’t have God, you have nothing, and the world will fall apart and burn with you on it.

A hauntingly bleak novel about authoritarian regimes. This book chilled me as I kept drawing parallels to today’s society. The writing in of itself was somehow both sterile and emotional at the same time. The story is just a gut punch to anyone with a free spirit. My only complaint is the section where you read “the book” along with Winston. I felt it dragged on and honestly most of it would have been better off as a part of the appendix at the end with the Newspeak section.
A classic. Not a great story in itself, but he brings his point across clear enough - the horror of a totalitarian dystopia and why we should never allow it to come to pass.
