Reading poetry in another language rather than my own was challenging, maybe it is more criptic than I expected and therefore I didnt enjoyed it or connected as much. Still as poetry made me feel lots of things with some pages.

ocean vuong has been my favourite poet ever since i read "someday i'll love ocean vuong". his poetry has a peculiarly vivid air surrounding it, spurred on by the lyricism of his verse. he has a beautifully potent way of writing.
in this collection, his poems time and time again return to the contradiction of sex, violence and religion, sometimes all at once as in "ode to masturbation".
