Honestly, not sure of the point. Kind of "deleted scenes" should we say, or bits of musings about elements in the books that could have been included but weren't. They go through all of Lyras stages, before, during and after His Dark Materials, some are slightly interesting, like one about Mulefa pods at the Botanic Gardens but most pretty pointless and don't add anything to the series.

Note: I read the content of this book in an edition of His Dark Materials that had the entire trilogy. The content of this book were inserted in between the three main books.

I loved the little snippets that gave some more insight in certain character's motives, thoughts or into situations. However, I do think these snippets wouldn't be worth buying/reading as a standalone book. Therefore I'm rating this 3 stars.

Didn’t really see the point of this “book” because it really didn’t add much more to what he had already written about characters and their world.

If you’re a huge fan then this is good for you, otherwise it really feels like a fruitless exercise.
