In preparation for one last return Outtatowner, Michigan, I’m re-reading both the Sullivan series and King series! The two families have an intense and long standing rivalry which manifests itself in silly pranks and the occasional fight. These books across two series and follows each sibling in the two families. I would definitely recommend reading the books in order for maximum enjoyment.

The first book set in this town is ONE LOOK, which follows single dad Wyatt Sullivan. When his daughter Penny was born, Wyatt retired from the NFL and took up a college coaching positions instead. He returns to Outtatowner to attend a funeral and his attention is caught by the beautiful yet mysterious woman crying over the casket. Returning home brings up a lot of unwanted memories which Wyatt has to work through. He is a really good dad and puts Penny’s needs above everything else even if the result for him is uncomfortable. I need my own Wyatt Sullivan. He’s a 10/10 dad, boyfriend and coach.

Lark Butler is an aspiring actress who is currently working as a mourner for hire. After working a funeral, she decides to stick around in the small town and ends up living beside Wyatt. This whole scenario made for a very interesting and funny situation. I adored Lark so much. Of all the Outtatowner girls she is probably my favorite. Lark is the ultimate sunshine to Wyatt’s grumpy. I also loved her relationship with Penny and the boys!! Their scenes were great.

Wyatt and Lark’s relationship was so fun to read. The chemistry is very apparent and the slightly forbidden nature of the relationship only added to it. I loved Wyatt’s approach to Lark’s career and his justification for his actions made a lot of sense. Lark had to make that decision on her own and he didn’t try to take away her agency even though it crushed him.

This was such a fun re-read! Lark and Wyatt are one of my favorite couples of all time and Outtatowner is my favourite fictional town! It was such a treat to jump back into their story.

If you like Coach by Devney Perry, or Autumn Nights by Willow Aster this book is right up your alley. If you have not read any of those and liked One Look, get off you booty and read them. Lena Hendrix fit that mold of grumpy single dad. And something about a single dad as a coach is so much hotter. I was a little confused by Lark, but I still loved her, she's organized but chaos! I wish you got a deeper look into some of the characters, especially the student athletes and some of the other Townies.
But their spice, and banter, and pining was the perfect mix of a happy, lovey, heart warming small town romance.

I enjoyed this one but I felt like it was missing a sparkle that I look for in a small town setting. I wanted to love this because small town and single dads are my favorite! But I did like it! Just was missing something!

My favorite part though was the writing style. Lena Hendrix has a really great understanding of balancing the action, dialogue, and internal narrative. I love Chikalu Falls book one and two which have great stories!

This book is definitely setting up future books for the Sullivan family; however, I wish it went into more detail about some of the loose ends left throughout. I felt almost overwhelmed by the number of people we were introduced to without discussing their importance.

I did like this book, they had instant attraction and chemistry, they had some good slow-burning, they had definite heat, and Wyatt was quite the dirty talker. So all fun even with some missing elements for me.
