Wyatt will do anything for his daughter. And when she wants to stay in his hometown near family he can’t say no, even if he’s been avoiding it for the last few years. And then of course there is Lark, the new town comer. Who he can’t hide his attraction too. Lark is aspiring to make it as an actress. Always moving from town to town. Lark ends up helping Wyatt out with nanny, personal assistance, and keeping his college team out of trouble for the summer.
Tried again and not in the right mood
First book of June is a new to me author. I was recommended her by a lot of friends who love similar authors to me. I loved that this book took place in MI and the history between the King and Sullivan rivalry. I even loved the main characters and little Penny. Just felt there was something missing. Almost a disconnect in the beginning. Hopefully it was a fluke. I liked the ending and will def continue the series

Easy to read, small town series.
Has 2 feuding families in town (very Sharks vs. Jets West Side Story-esque in my mind) I might continue the series later on. Maybe?
*Actual rating is 2.5 stars*
Picked it up for the small town, single-dad, grumpy/sunshine tropes. However, it was very “insta-love” and I felt like the pair didn’t have a lot of chemistry until halfway through the book. She was kind of annoying at times and Wyatt’s only personality trait was “grumpy.”
I am also not the biggest fan of “FMC gives up the career of her dreams to stay in a small town and be a stepmom.” Like, I felt like her realizing that acting wasn’t her thing was just an excuse to get them together. It says she becomes a teacher but I don’t even know if that would be the profession I would choose for her. She should be like a Marie Kondo, she organized the baker’s pantry and color-coded/labeled everything & then overhauled Wyatt’s schedule. Teacher just feels like a cop-out to me.
I also at no point knew how old “Pickle” was. She acted like a 6yo, but spoke like an 11yo. If they mentioned it, it was so brief that I clearly do not remember it.
It was entertaining as a whole, but not spectacular. I was more interested in the rest of the family & the long-standing grudge than I was in the main pairing. May pick up the sequel for Katie’s story.
