This book probably started my love for more "candid stories", books where not much plot happens and it's just showcasing the everyday actions of the cast. I hear how people don't like the book because it is long and jarring, but I think people are saying that because they're comparing its bulk to the more action-packed, establishing beginning. And if you miss that part while reading, such action returns at the end. All in all, I love this book and hope to read its sequel, "The mysterious Island", in the future.

The antarctic part was by far the best thing in this book. Should have saved me time and only has written those 3 chapters instead of the whole book

Fun fact: I have three copies of this book, two of them vintage, but I've never read it. I've always meant to, but it just never happened. So when Hoopla suggested it to me, I thought I'd finally give it a shot! The audio version they had available was more of a drama than a proper audiobook, but I enjoyed it very much!

This is nothing like I thought it would be.
While there were quite a few things in the book that made me feel uncomfortable, it was still a nerdy and interesting adventure.

Update a few weeks after reading: I have not been remembering this fondly. I've been remembering this so not-fondly that I'm changing my rating.
