Before I Go to Sleep

S.J. Watson

3.74 AVERAGE

I really enjoyed this book. The premise is creepy too and the story somewhat predictable as it’s been done before on tv and films. This was also adapted into one and the fact without the predictable plot twist there wouldn’t be a plot as there would be no issue makes it any easy read. Though despite all that I enjoyed sitting down and curling up on my sofa to read it and that’s what matters. Sometimes that’s all you need. If you’re looking for a deeper psychological thriller then this might not be for you. But if you want something that yeah you might figure out half way through but still want to see how it ends then I say give it a go.

I really enjoyed the idea of this book. Christine wakes up every day to a strange man in a home she does not remember. She has an inability to recall anything after she falls asleep and awakes each day. She converses with Dr. Nash, a neurologist, who encourages her to write in her journal each day to help piece together her life. The more she writes, the more she finds inconsistencies in her journal entries. It felt like I gained access to the inner workings of someone with amnesia. I stayed up until 4:30 reading this one because I was invested in this character's outcome. (Apparently, there's also a movie starring Nicole Kidman. I know it will likely fail to compare to the book, but I'll give it a spin.)

Slow to start but very drama filled towards the end

3.5 stars for giving me a sleepless night and tons of anxiety. If it weren't for so many loopholes it could've been a five star book. ...more
